As a young child, I was fortunate to be taught by my mother, grandmother and great aunts who were fine designers, seamstresses, knitters, lace makers, teachers, poets, and storytellers. Thus, I learned many things from the wisdom of their hearts and voices, as well as from the skill of their hands.
My work has also always been inspired and colored by nature. My favorite fairy tale, THUMBELINA, was often a starting point in my approach to creating works of art or writing as an advocate for my love of our island home, The Earth. I search to recreate from the multi-layered ground images in this story, and from my play as a child in the woods behind my childhood home. I have experimented with natural dyes and paints in addition to the use of some fine non-toxic French silks paints to compliment the eco-dyed works. It is always evolving.
