Showcasing our Craftsmen

This year's Spring Showcase features artwork from 35 of our outstanding artisans, working in mediums spanning from fiber to wood to glass and everything in between.  Artists will display and sell their one-of-a-kind, handcrafted pieces of art in their booths, which be both inside and outside of the MS Craft Center.  Whether you're shopping for yourself, looking for that perfect Mother's Day gift, or looking just to look, our fine craftsmen are sure to have something to catch your eye.

MEET THE ARTIST:

Rebecca Ziemer, the mind behind the 366 Critter Challenge

Becky2017_06

March 6th marks the opening of  366 Days: A Year in the Life Artistic in the George Berry Gallery at the Mississippi Craft Center.  This exhibit displays the journey through one craftsman's growth as she set a goal to create a different clay figure every day of the leap year.  Artist Becky Ziemer will be here for the opening of her exhibit which will stay through the end of May.

And every day, a bit of whimsy ...
That was what Rebecca Ziemer anticipated on the first day of the leap year, 2016: a daily, short burst of creativity that resulted in a small, clay creature which would make the viewer smile. The outcome, however, was more of a punishing slog toward a finish line to which the distance seemed to increase rather than diminish; but, finish she did and 366 critters later Rebecca has found herself rewarded with a huge social media following, offering many more smiles than she ever imagined.
Rebecca’ s creations are about to generate an even greater number of grins, and engender even more fans for the artist, as 366 Days: A Year in the Life Artistic goes on tour throughout the deep South. The collection of 366 clay creatures (one for each day of the leap year, 2016) will make its second stop at the Mississippi Craft Center with the exhibit opening in conjunction with our annual Spring Showcase. The artist will also be here for the opening to meet with visitors of the exhibit.

Natchez Trace Living History Encampment

The Natchez Trace Parkway Association presents Living History, an interactive walk through the history of Mississippi and how crafts were essential to the early settlers coming down the Natchez Trace.  Join us for this wonderful opportunity to showcase how the exceptional craftsmanship of Mississippians transcends the two hundred years of this state's existence.
