Each summer, the Mississippi Craft Center hosts multiple sessions of Creative Craft Camp to introduce children to the joy of making things with their hands. Expert members of the Craftsmen's Guild of Mississippi immerse your child into a fun, creative, and hands-on experience, teaching them the techniques and history of their craft through creating one-of-a-kind pieces of art to take home and cherish for years to come.

Ages 5-9: Sampler Camps
Being young is all about exploration. At this age, children are exploring their interests in the clothes they wear, the foods they eat, and the shows they watch on TV. As any parent can tell you, one day their child may be on their way to becoming an astronaut and the next day a painter.
With our Sampler Camps, your child is free to explore his or her artistic side with the help of some of the Guild's fine craftsmen. Campers spend five days, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, creating wonderful crafts spanning our vast array of mediums all under the instruction of a specialized craftsman, diving into different mediums each day.
On the final day of camp, we give your child the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be the star of their very own art show right here in our very own guild hall complete with a full reception. Parents and their children can take a stroll and admire the hard work and creativity of all of the campers. Let your child come explore with us!

Maybe your child has been through a few of our intensive camps or maybe you've just noticed that your son or daughter has a keen eye and a passion for crafting. Often, children in school art classes or at home don't always have the tools or guidance necessary to let their creative passions fly.
At our intensive camps, we offer four- or five-day camp sessions filled with hands on instruction in areas spanning our vast array of mediums. Your child can come get their hands dirty and throw some pottery on the wheel or sweat it out in the blacksmith shop, forging steel with fire*. Each camp focuses on one craft for four or five days in which an expert craftsman takes the group of campers under their wing and teaches them the basics of their craft.
At the end of each session, we hope your child will come home with magnificent artwork as well as a thirst for knowledge and a passion for crafting. Let our craftsmen help your child's artistic visions blossom. Sometimes you never quite know just how talented your children can be... you may even have a little Picasso in your living room right now.
*For safety reasons, some camps have a recommended age of 13+ (i.e. blacksmithing). Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis.
Each summer, the Craftsmen's Guild of Mississippi and the Mississippi Craft Center team up with Operation Shoestring, a non-profit outreach program located in Jackson, to bring inner-city children who may not have access to art supplies the opportunity to create something magnificent. We spend a week taking them through a camp experience in which they complete one or two crafts a day all under the instruction of an expert craftsman.
